What is ADHD?

ADHD is a developmental disorder characterized by an ongoing pattern of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity. ADHD begins in early childhood, though symptom presentation may change into adulthood. Symptoms often impact school, work, and social life and general wellbeing.

Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

    • Losing items or materials

    • Procrastination

    • Failing to complete tasks in their entirety

    • Difficulty following instructions

    • Avoidance of tasks requiring mental effort

    • Fidgeting

    • Interrupting others

    • Blurting out answers

    • Restlessness

ADHD may impact life in a variety of ways, including at work, school, and in social relationships. When undiagnosed and untreated, ADHD can make activities of daily living more difficult, lead to academic and work problems, and strain relationships.

Many other psychological concerns share similar symptoms with ADHD.

Formal ADHD testing for both adults or children is necessary to provide accurate diagnoses, rule-out other possible mental health concerns that could be present, and can provide useful recommendations and resources to help a person thrive with ADHD.
